Girija Started Her first foot steps in Sri Saraswathi Gana Nilayam in Triplicane Founded by Bharatnatyam exponent K. Lalitha, the school today is run by her first student Ranganayaki Jayaraman. For this 80-year-old, the school is life.
Then Girija did her Arangetram in dance From Guru Padmalakshmee Suresh and Performed in many dance stage shows along with her . She is the senior most disciple of Kalaimamani Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman and has upgraded herself by working with many senior veterans in several dance productions. Eloquent eyes, enchanting looks and an evocative display of emotions through expressions are the highlights of her performance. She travelled extensively all over the globe and enthralled the audience with her scintillating performances.
Her talent has been widely aknowledged by leading sabhas and veterans and coferred with titles like Natyamayuri, Natya Thilagam, Bharathakalaratnam. She is an A Grade artiste in Doordhashan and also empanelled with India International Rural Cultural Centre (IRCEN) New Delhi.She is also the Director for Padmalaya, the renowned school of Bharathanatyam in Chennai.
Girija got trained in Nattuvangam and Dance theory from Guru Dr. Lakshmi . Dr. Lakshmi Ramaswamy has earned a special place in Bharatanatyam as an extraordinary performer, giving teacher, creative choreographer and ardent researcher. With a vibrant profile: A grade artist of Doordarshan, empanelled artist of ICCR and South Zone Cultural Centre, recipient of the international fulbright fellowship, several awards and titles, she has performed in prestigious festivals in India and many other countries. She has presented papers in Seminars that include the International Classical Tamizh Conference, Urbaniana University, Rome. She has also given lectures for refreshers course, lecture demonstrations and conducted workshops in India and Abroad.
She is associated with Madras University, Alagappa University, Annamalai University in various capacities.
